Kyarkoti Lake. Located at a height of 3,820 meters above sea level, Kyarkoti is a mesmerizing high-altitude lake located in the Uttarkashi district. You get spectacular views of the famous snow-capped high Himalayas Srikanth and some unnamed mountains

I and 12 of my friends started our trek from Bagori village, Harsil. Bagori has very aesthetic vibes, old wooden structure houses, people dressed up in their cultural attire, People Bagori has placed praying flags all over their village which makes it more beautiful, from Bagori to Kyarkoti valley which is about 20 km. Some of my friends were not familiar with trekking so in order to reduce our baggage and inconvenience we decided to hire 2 ponies. As we moved forward we crossed small streams coming from different glaciers, we also came across the Bhojpatra trees also called Himalayan Birch, the bark of these trees were used for writing scripts in India a long time ago, there’s also this mini temple of Lal devta where localities offer Wood to the deity. As we moved forward we got a view of the valley. The place had very irresistible vibes, one can not choose to ignore the panoramic view-snow clad mountains, small streams running down from mountains, beautiful flowers, forage grass. We passed by few nomadic people and their rearing animals. We pitched our tent for the stay of the day which was our camp 1, we had a beautiful waterfall on a site the location was good to capture pictures.

The next morning we moved further towards the Kyarkoti lake. After  6-7 hrs of the walk, we reached camp 2  pitched our tents cooked our food for dinner and placed a huge bonfire, and did some danced and clicked pictures together at night. The next morning we got to see the majestic view of a campsite and kyarkoti lake, wild red flowers clean stream residing from the snout of the glacier as making it more scenic to watch. we spent 2 days in kyarkoti discovering several things like –

  • Lamkhaga pass which is located in the Indo-China Border at Dhauladhar Range connects the north-eastern Garhwal with Himachal Pradesh. The area is under the control of the Indian Army.   • Bhramakamal (Saussurea obvallata) – the state flower of Uttarakhand and is generally found at an altitude above 4500m.
  • Mini Temple of Bhotiya’s – Bhotiya is one of the social tribes in Uttarakhand. Bhotiya’s are presumed Tibetan heritage that lives along the Indo-Tibetan border. They are an occupational caste of shepherds and they preach for the wellness of their cattle, goats, sheep at the temple.
  • Wild animals- spotted some wild animals like wild bears, ibex, mountain goats, etc around our camp and during the trek as well.

My suggestion for the kyarkoti trek would be that choose a suitable time for the trek like spring or autumn season because glacier meltdown is not very rapid and you will get very astonishing view so plan your itinerary accordingly.

While returning back we had to face few difficulties with our ponies as it was very challenging to cross streams with them, and the owner of ponies was also not too familiar with the trek which was a bit frustrating and time-consuming for us.

We carried 7-8 disposable bags with us to collect all the litter while on the trek.

Start your trek early in the morning to avoid crossing huge streams because the flow of water is low in the morning so you can easily pass through them.

Avoid going out of your tent/campsite at night, you should not trek at night to avoid encounters with wild animals especially during this particular trek. 

If you need to go to the loo please choose the nearest point from your tent. Never let the born fire extinguish during the night.

The thing to keep in mind while heading for the trek.

Good pair of shoes because ankle twist would be the last thing you want to happen to you on a trek.

First Aid and Medicines- keep all essential meds with you and ORS as well.

packed lunch if you are going on a short trek and proper ration including proteins, carbs if you are planning for 2 or more days.

planned route map so that you don’t get lost.

choose an appropriate campsite which should not be too close to the river or too deep in the jungle because you will definitely don’t want to enjoy the company of wild animals around you during the night.

Plucking wildflowers and eating jungle fruit coz you will definitely risk your life if you eat any wild fruit with any knowledge of it and wildflowers can be poisonous at times.

Never leave your trash behind, or through it anywhere during the trek. Dispose of your trash appropriately after returning back.

Avoid going out of your tent/campsite at night because you can get encountered by dangerous wild animals and also you should not keep moving forward in the trek during nigh coz it can be risky.

Choose a local guide if you are not familiar with the trek.

क्यारकोटि झील। समुद्र तल से 3,820 मीटर की ऊंचाई पर स्थित, क्यारकोटि उत्तरकाशी जिले में स्थित एक उच्च ऊंचाई वाली झील है। आपको प्रसिद्ध बर्फ से ढके उच्च हिमालय श्रीकांत और कुछ अज्ञात पहाड़ों के शानदार दृश्य मिलते हैं

मैंने और मेरे 12 दोस्तों ने हर्सिल के बागोरी गांव से अपना ट्रेक शुरू किया। बागोरी में बहुत ही सौन्दर्यपूर्ण जीवंतता है, पुराने लकड़ी के ढांचे वाले घर हैं, लोग अपनी सांस्कृतिक पोशाक में सजे हुए हैं, लोग बागोरी ने अपने गाँव में प्रार्थना झंडे लगाए हैं जो इसे और अधिक सुंदर बनाता है, बागोरी से क्यारकोटी घाटी तक जो लगभग 20 किमी है। मेरे कुछ दोस्त ट्रेकिंग से परिचित नहीं थे इसलिए अपने सामान और असुविधा को कम करने के लिए हमने 2 पोनी किराए पर लेने का फैसला किया। जैसे-जैसे हम आगे बढ़े हमने विभिन्न ग्लेशियरों से आने वाली छोटी-छोटी धाराओं को पार किया, हमें भोजपत्र के पेड़ भी मिले जिन्हें हिमालयन बिर्च भी कहा जाता है, इन पेड़ों की छाल का उपयोग भारत में बहुत पहले स्क्रिप्ट लिखने के लिए किया जाता था, लाल देवता का यह छोटा मंदिर भी है जहां इलाके देवता को लकड़ी चढ़ाते हैं। आगे बढ़ने पर हमें घाटी का नजारा देखने को मिला। इस जगह में बहुत ही अनूठा खिंचाव था, कोई भी मनोरम दृश्य-बर्फ से ढके पहाड़ों, पहाड़ों से नीचे की ओर बहने वाली छोटी-छोटी धाराएँ, सुंदर फूल, चारा घास को नज़रअंदाज़ नहीं कर सकता। हम कुछ खानाबदोश लोगों और उनके पालने वाले जानवरों के पास से गुजरे। हमने उस दिन के ठहरने के लिए अपना तंबू लगाया जो हमारा शिविर 1 था, हमारे पास एक साइट पर एक सुंदर झरना था जहां तस्वीरें खींचने के लिए स्थान अच्छा था।

अगली सुबह हम आगे क्यारकोटि झील की ओर बढ़े। ६-७ घंटे की सैर के बाद, हम कैंप २ पर पहुँचे, अपने तंबू गाड़ दिए और रात के खाने के लिए अपना खाना बनाया और एक विशाल अलाव रखा, और कुछ नृत्य किया और रात में एक साथ तस्वीरें क्लिक कीं। अगली सुबह हमें एक कैंपसाइट और क्यारकोटि झील का राजसी दृश्य देखने को मिला, ग्लेशियर के थूथन से रहने वाले जंगली लाल फूल साफ धारा के रूप में इसे देखने के लिए और अधिक सामान्य बनाते हैं। हमने कायरकोटी में 2 दिन बिताए और कई चीजों की खोज की जैसे –

लमखागा दर्रा जो धौलाधार रेंज में भारत-चीन सीमा में स्थित है, उत्तर-पूर्वी गढ़वाल को हिमाचल प्रदेश से जोड़ता है। यह इलाका भारतीय सेना के नियंत्रण में है।
भ्रामकमल (सौसुरिया ओबवल्लता) – उत्तराखंड का राज्य फूल और आमतौर पर 4500 मीटर से ऊपर की ऊंचाई पर पाया जाता है।
भोटिया का मिनी मंदिर – भोटिया उत्तराखंड में सामाजिक जनजातियों में से एक है। भोटिया की तिब्बती विरासत मानी जाती है जो भारत-तिब्बत सीमा के साथ रहती है। वे चरवाहों की एक व्यावसायिक जाति हैं और वे मंदिर में अपने मवेशियों, बकरियों, भेड़ों के कल्याण के लिए प्रचार करते हैं।
जंगली जानवर- कुछ जंगली जानवरों जैसे जंगली भालू, आइबेक्स, पहाड़ी बकरियों आदि को हमारे शिविर के आसपास और ट्रेक के दौरान भी देखा।

वापस लौटते समय हमें अपने खच्चर के साथ कुछ कठिनाइयों का सामना करना पड़ा क्योंकि उनके साथ धाराओं को पार करना बहुत चुनौतीपूर्ण था, और टट्टू के मालिक भी ट्रेक से बहुत परिचित नहीं थे जो हमारे लिए थोड़ा निराशाजनक और समय लेने वाला था।

क्यारकोटि ट्रेक के लिए मेरा सुझाव यह होगा कि वसंत या पतझड़ के मौसम जैसे ट्रेक के लिए उपयुक्त समय चुनें क्योंकि ग्लेशियर का पिघलना बहुत तेज़ नहीं है और आपको बहुत आश्चर्यजनक दृश्य नहीं मिलेगा, इसलिए अपनी यात्रा की योजना उसी के अनुसार बनाएं।

ट्रेक के दौरान सभी कूड़े को इकट्ठा करने के लिए हम अपने साथ 7-8 डिस्पोजेबल बैग ले गए।

बचने के लिए सुबह जल्दी अपना ट्रेक शुरू करें क्योंकि सुबह के समय धाराओं का प्रवाह कम होता है इसलिए आप आसानी से उनसे गुजर सकते हैं।

रात में अपने डेरे/कैंपसाइट से बाहर जाने से बचें, विशेष रूप से इस विशेष ट्रेक के दौरान जंगली जानवरों के साथ मुठभेड़ से बचने के लिए आपको रात में ट्रेक नहीं करना चाहिए।

यदि आपको शौचालय जाना हो तो कृपया अपने डेरे से निकटतम स्थान चुनें। रात में पैदा हुई आग को कभी भी बुझने न दें।

ट्रेक के लिए जाते समय इन बातों का ध्यान रखें।

जूते की अच्छी जोड़ी क्योंकि टखने का मोड़ आखिरी चीज होगी जो आप ट्रेक पर अपने साथ करना चाहते हैं।

प्राथमिक उपचार और दवाएं- सभी आवश्यक दवाएं अपने पास और ओआरएस भी रखें।

यदि आप 2 या अधिक दिनों के लिए योजना बना रहे हैं तो पैक लंच यदि आप एक छोटे ट्रेक और प्रोटीन, कार्ब्स सहित उचित राशन पर जा रहे हैं।

नियोजित मार्ग मानचित्र ताकि आप खो न जाएं।

एक उपयुक्त शिविर का चयन करें जो नदी के बहुत करीब या उनमें बहुत गहरा न हो क्योंकि आप निश्चित रूप से रात के दौरान अपने आसपास के जंगली जानवरों की कंपनी का आनंद नहीं लेना चाहेंगे।

वाइल्डफ्लावर को तोड़ना और जंगल के फल खाने से आप निश्चित रूप से अपने जीवन को जोखिम में डालेंगे यदि आप इसके बारे में किसी भी जंगली फल को खाते हैं और वाइल्डफ्लावर कई बार जहरीले हो सकते हैं।

ट्रेक के दौरान कभी भी अपने कूड़ेदान को पीछे न छोड़ें, या इसके माध्यम से कहीं भी न छोड़ें। वापस लौटने के बाद अपने कूड़ेदान का उचित निपटान करें।

मानसून के दौरान ट्रेकिंग से बचें क्योंकि आप अप्रत्याशित खतरे का सामना कर सकते हैं जैसे भारी बारिश, गरज, बिजली, बादल फटने आदि के कारण किसी भूस्खलन या ट्रेक के कटाव के कारण फंस जाना आदि।
